The 2015 European Games, also known as Baku 2015 or Baku 2015 European Games (Azerbaijani: Bakı 2015 Avropa Oyunları), will be the inaugural edition of the European Games, an international multi-sport event for athletes representing the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Europe. It is scheduled to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 12 to 28 June 2015, and will feature more than 6,000 athletes from 50 NOCs competing in 20 sports.
The European Games is a planned international multi-sport event to be held among athletes from all over Europe. The Games were envisioned and are to be governed by the European Olympic Committees (EOC), which announced their launch at its 41st General Assembly in Rome, on 8 December 2012. Baku 2015 European Games, the first edition of the European Games is going to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, in June 2015, and every four years thereafter. Twenty sports have so far been confirmed for the 2015 Games, following successful negotiations with the European authorities for swimming, gymnastics and athletics.
The European Games are the final continental Games to be initiated, after the Asian Games, Pan-American Games, All-Africa Games and Pacific Games. As of 2015, every continent will have a continental games in the Olympic tradition.
The European Games are not related to the European Sports Championships, an event organised by individual European sports federations, bringing together the individual European championships of athletics, swimming, cycling, rowing and triathlon under a single 'brand' on a four-yearly cycle beginning in 2018.
