About this app

GliinoSky for Meteor Showers, Northern lights, Stargazing & Tales by the Stars

Do you want to know when the next meteor shower is? Or when is the next Aurora Borealis? Or if there is other phenomena in the night sky that you can see with naked eye?

This App gives you all that in addition to specifics about the events considering the visibility from different locations on Earth and other factors such as the effect of the moon light.

The best wonders of the night sky that could be seen by naked-eye are presented. Add to that the stories that named the night stars.

1. Meteor Showers

This app gives you a meteor shower calendar with the peak times. The details for every meteor shower are customized to show an approximate number of meteors per hour at the peak based on astronomy data and human visibility limits.

Globe Graph: shows if the meteor shower favors the northern hemisphere, the southern hemisphere, or both.

Moon phase graph: shows the moon phase at the peak.

Rate graph: shows an estimated number of shooting stars per hour anticipated at the peak. One bar means 5 meteors or less, 2 bars is about 10 meteors, 3 bars is about 20-30 meteors per hour, and 4 bars is for 60 meteors per hour or higher.

2. Aurora Borealis

The Northern lights are frequent in the location close to the north or south poles. When sun flares erupt in Earth’s direction the Aurora Borealis is seen in more locations, but we only have 48 hour notice or less. This app has the most accurate prediction as it counts on the data as the sun flare is detected.

3. Stargazing and other phenomena

Know when it’s the time to watch an eclipse, an asterism, an occultation, pairing of two planets, or maybe a comet.

4. Tales by the stars

The names of the stars and the constellation came from the ancient stories and legends. Some of the showers and constellations have a link that takes you to the original tales beyond their names. Most of the stories are form Greek and Roman mythology.

5. Viewing guidance

Specific details about how to watch each event are presented.

How to look up events:

Left tab displays the Meteor shower calendar.

Stargazing tab shows upcoming astronomy and night sky events including upcoming meteor showers.

Tales lists the stories that named our stars.
