Joseph Mallord William Turner, Born in London England was a British Romantic landscape painter, water-colourist and printmaker. Considered quite controversial in his day he is now regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting. He is more famous for his oil paintings but he was also a master of Watercolour landscape painting. More commonly known as "the painter of light" his work is regarded as a Romantic preface to Impressionism.
